Over 89% of UK local authorities house between zero and ten asylum seeker’s

The asylum statistics you will never see in the Oldham Chronicle or on the Oldham Council website. In the third quarter of 2016 337 (89.2%) of 378 UK local authorites housed between 0 and 10 asylum seeker’s of which 236 (62.4%) local authorities housed no asylum seeker’s at all. 29 UK local authorities housed 500 or more asylum seekers of which 8 (27.6%) are in Greater Manchester. These 8 GM areas housed 17% of all asylum seekers in the UK, 70.5% of all asylum seeker’s in the North West,  in the third quarter of 2016: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside & Wigan.
Note: Oldham, the most deprived town in England, can pull out of the asylum system altogether at anytime the council chooses.
