More pressure on Oldham resources from continuing record levels of poor migration led by Romania

Once again, and despite “Brexit”, the UK receives a ludicrous net inflow of some 335,000 migrants in the year to June 2016 only 1000 less than last year’s record high.

Oldham, England’s most deprived town, once again see’s an inflow from the poorest countries on earth as we accommodate 1540 new national insurance numbers registrations to overseas nationals from Oldham addresses in the first nine months of 2016. Romanian’s made up over a third of those new adult migrant national insurance registrations in Oldham in 2016 with almost three times more adults than the second highest nationality which was Pakistan. Housing shortages, tax credits and other benefits, NHS pressure, school capacity and curriculum pressures, crime, local government spending and antisocial behavior all increase as a direct result of the huge numbers of low-skilled and unskilled migrants setting up home in Oldham with limited if any language skills and many with incompatible attitudes towards equality and what is socially acceptable. The 024 Oldham town centre area saw the highest migrant number increase with the wider town centre collective of areas continuing the trend to accommodate the highest migrant numbers in the borough.

To the immigration figures we need to add that 8 Greater Manchester areas also housed 17% of all asylum seekers in the UK in the third quarter of 2016: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside & Wigan

For some unknown reason the government choses to omit publication of NINo and benefit data for the Oldham 035 area which is Werneth & Coppice, the area has high levels of migrants including EU2 Romanian’s as evidenced by many local newspaper articles.

It has to be asked again who the eight hundred new homes planned for Oldham’s St Mary’s ward at Prince’s Gate are actually designed to accommodate? St Mary’s already has far more housing benefit claimants than any other Oldham ward and the highest number of JSA benefit sanctions. Unlike Oldham Manchester City Council produces a communities of interest report which highlights uncomfortable statistics such as numbers of foreign sex workers and educational attainment by nationality and community identity, with more public money being being diverted to central Oldham wards it is about time Oldham Council did the same.
