Five Labour Oldham leaders failed to deliver the flagship Prince’s Gate retail scheme which is now to become a housing development

As suspected and all but officially announced after 12 years of failure overseen by five Labour Oldham leaders their flagship retail development Prince’s Gate which wasted £3.3 million of public money, failed to deliver the £21 million of additional economic activity every year and 700 new jobs is going to become yet another housing development. Oldham council have accepted Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land Funding from the government for the Prince’s Gate area the purpose of the funding scheme is to unlock housing-led development on brownfield land. Another nail in the coffin of a town centre that is fast becoming a neighbourhood extension of the least sustainable areas not only in Oldham but in Greater Manchester.
