Oldham budgets under pressure but the Council purchases yet another empty “independent quarter” property

Oldham Council says budgets are under pressure and services & jobs must be cut but they have just allocated another £100,000+ spending (estate agent listing price asked for offers over £100,000) for the purchase of yet another empty “independent quarter” property on Yorkshire St with an additional undisclosed pre-agreed refurbishment budget on top of the purchase fee. There is little that could be construed as independent about Oldham’s independent quarter which is in the majority owned by Oldham Council who have a letting and property sales policy in the area that excludes what they term as undesirable uses.
