The TaxPayers’ Alliance published figures in November showing Labour Oldham Council, which is currently led by Oldham West & Royton Labour candidate Jim McMahon, has more staff earning £100,000 than any other North West authority. With 25 staff earning £100,000 they have 21 more than neighbour Rochdale, 20 more than Bury and 15 more than Tameside.
Quote “With growing populations, reductions in central government grants in many areas, and a cap on Council Tax increases, many councils are reducing services. However, executive salaries in many local authorities remain high, raising questions over value for money for taxpayers. Remuneration was defined as including, but not being limited to: salary, fees, allowances, bonuses, benefits in kind, compensation for loss of office and employers’ pension contributions.”
