Isn’t it both arrogant and a clear demonstration of Labour Oldham’s disdain for public opinion that when the tax paying Oldham public pushed Oldham Council to save the Coliseum building the Labour council flat out refused to save the venue stating the building was completely unsalvageable. Suddenly when soap opera actors and the media become involved and commission a film Labour Oldham see an opportunity to now be defenders of the old Coliseum building as if they played no part in its demise despite having a town centre masterplan that allocated the land for housing. Let’s not forget Labour Oldham wasted £3.2 million of public money on two abandoned planned new Coliseum theatre buildings on Union Street failing to deliver the new theatre over a ten year period. Arooj and Jim now clearly see an opportunity to be photographed with famous faces and paint themselves as Coliseum saviours coincidently this is occurring when the local elections are just over a week away and the war in Gaza has lost Labour Oldham a substantial number of votes and several Muslim councillors.
